General description of the collection: The Michael Joseph Lenihan papers include I REMEMBER--I REMEMBER: REMINISCENCES OF BRIGADIER GENERAL MICHAEL J. LENIHAN, UNITED STATES ARMY, RETIRED, unpublished reminiscences dictated by General Lenihan in 1958 covering his ancestry and early life (1865-1883); military career (1883-1929); and the first twelve years of his retirement. Brief mention of his later life (1941-1958) and an appended reference to his death (August 13, 1958) are also included. Covers span as commander of various units to include the 3rd Division. His narrative, not only not only recounts his own career, but also mentions his friends' military careers prior to, during, and after his own term of service. The account also provides information on life in Italy and Palestine in the 1930s.
